Cuban mixed martial artist (MMA) and former World Champion and Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling Yoel Romero Palacio visited the sugar factory ocean drive Saturday night. Yoel competes in the Middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is ranked the #1 contender and formerly competed in the now-defunct Strikeforce organization. As of May 2 2017, Romero is the #1 contender in the UFC Middleweight division as well as #15 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings
Yoel stopped by our Ocean Drive location with his manager Bean Rivera after finishing a day of filming a documentary about his upcoming fight July 8 in Las Vegas. The group sat in our inside dining room for a late night dinner after a long day of filming and training where they appeared very relaxed engaging with guests and staff taking pictures and answering questions.
Getting ready for his next fight Yoel decided to go tropical with a non-alcoholic Passion Punch Goblet and his manager took his recommendation ordering the same but regular. For appetizer they shared our signature Mac and Cheese Pops and Bruschetta. For entrée the #1 contender asked for a special Fried Goat Cheese Salad with Grilled Shrimps and Fresh Strawberries that our chefs where more than happy to prepare for his special diet. His manager being from Miami and a seafood lover tried one of our Chef’s specialties and a Miami staple “Paella with Lobster” (Spanish style saffron rice with seafood).
For dessert Yoel already had his mind set for a Banana Foster Crepe with Chocolate Ice cream that he had previously enjoyed in our restaurant while his Manager Bean decided for a Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich from our Gourmet selection.
Having enough sugar for the day Yoel decided to spoil his two daughters with souvenirs from our retail shop and spoil he did taking home a pail of assorted candies like sour jack lemonade, micro jaw breakers and gummy flop flops. From the toy selection he picked up two Sugar Factory Teddy Bears, Aurora World Corsica Mermicornios and a Silver Rainbow blueberry Couture Pop.
Yoel was sporting a casual black t shirt, khaki pants and Giuseppe Zanotti sneakers.
